About John Muir Middle School

John Muir Middle School is one of six schools in the Corcoran Unified School District, proudly serving students in grades six through eight. Located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, JMMS is deeply connected to the fertile land and strong community spirit that define Corcoran. We embrace that spirit in our classrooms and beyond, preparing students not only for success in high school and college but also to be leaders who contribute positively to their community.

At JMMS, we live by Wildcat PRIDE—Patience, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy. These values guide everything we do, from academics to extracurriculars, creating a school culture that emphasizes responsibility, kindness, and growth. Our students are encouraged to show PRIDE in their learning, their character, and their school.

We are proud to offer unique opportunities that set John Muir apart, including a three-year STEM program, one of the few middle school agriculture programs in the valley, an award-winning band, excellent athletics, and meaningful leadership opportunities. These programs, paired with strong academics and a supportive environment, help students discover their passions and prepare for the future.

Through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), our classrooms foster respect, responsibility, and resilience. With these expectations in place, students experience the freedom to grow in a safe, supportive environment where they can take risks, learn from challenges, and celebrate their achievements.

At John Muir Middle School, we believe every Wildcat has the potential to learn, lead, and succeed—and we are committed to helping them get there.

Beyond the Classroom: Enrichment, Technology, and Student Success

At John Muir Middle School, we offer much more than a rigorous academic curriculum. We focus on developing the whole student—mind, body, and character—while preparing them for the challenges of high school and beyond. Wildcat PRIDE—Patience, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Empathy—guides every aspect of student life, from academics to extracurricular activities, creating a culture where students can grow confidently and responsibly.

Our classrooms integrate technology into every lesson, giving students hands-on experience with the tools they will need in future studies and projects. From coding and 3D printing in our three-year STEM program, to exploring agriculture and FFA leadership opportunities, students gain skills that go beyond the textbook. Our award-winning band, athletics programs, and diverse electives and clubs offer additional avenues for students to explore their passions, develop teamwork, and strengthen leadership abilities.

These middle school years are pivotal, and we are committed to equipping every Wildcat with the tools to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage parents and families to review our Single Plan for Student Achievement to learn more about our goals and strategies for student success.

By combining academic rigor, enrichment opportunities, and character development grounded in Wildcat PRIDE, John Muir Middle School ensures that every student is known, supported, and prepared to learn, lead, and succeed.
